For some years now, I have been a subscriber of trying to do a morning walk every day. It goes back to watching a Dr. Oz show many years ago, in which he said a 30 minute walk daily lowers your chances of getting Diabetes, by 75%. Did you get that?! , a simple 30 minute walk lowers your chances by 75%!!. I was so motivated to keep myself from getting Diabetes. Till now I had seen my grandmother face a grim life with diabetes, till we finally lost her to the complications of such disease. I still have both parents, but yes, sadly they do both have diabetes. Which gives a very strong indication that if I didn’t work on prevention, I’d be diagnosed sooner or later. Fast forward to today, which brings us to a cold rainy morning in Southern California. And as much as I’d love to put it off and just stay cozy in bed, a part of me always says it has to be done. That and the need to fit into a dress for a nieces wedding in a few weeks (wink, wink). So I jump out of bed, threw on my workout clothes and tennis shoes and walked to the backroom in my house. Where amidst the mess and clutter of all the stuff we hang on to, is a treadmill. I cleared some space and jumped on, and started off my 30 minute walk. If you have an iPad like I do, or any other form of entertainment make sure to bring it in there with you. I like to get on youtube and search full documentaries, more likely than not I will come across something very interesting. Nowadays there are so many forms of entertainment, no reason to get bored while exercising. I still prefer outdoors more than anything. I love anything I can do to be out in nature. Plus I live in a beautiful city full of beautiful places to go on walks. Give it a try!! and bring on those Happy Endorphins.
